We are always who we once were . . .

I have a little theory.
If we really look at who we were when we were young
we will find the same person we are today!

Stitching has been part of my "Fabric" (excuse the pun) for as long as I can remember.
I don't know the actual date I first held a needle, but I think the grooves and calluses
in my fingers began that very day.

I do remember a crudely stitched bear . . .  just 2 pieces of furry fabric,
stitched with a child's hand around the edges over a pipe cleaner armature.
Hmmm . . .  I made a bear, and today I still do!
See?

Enjoy my little stroll down my memory lane . . .
My first "real" craft show ~ "The Gambier Craft Show".
(Held ... and STILL held in Gambier, Ohio home of Kenyon College ~ where I grew up!)
I am guessing that I was about 14-15 at the time this photo was taken.

Be who you were meant to be!

No truer words could be spoken....I love this post Lori...even though stitching was never something that I did often it was a craft that I enjoyed and always gyrated towards at craft shows and art venues as a kid. Thanks for making me remember a less complicated time.....

I was only thinking the same thing today - I was sewing before I went to school so I must have been four. I'm still sewing today and I was only thinking earlier that as a child I walked for miles as I lived in the countryside and I stitched anything and everything I could, today I still walk miles as I love hiking and I'm still stitching so you and I must be on the same wave length today. Incidentally, the Pooh bear and friends you were selling at the craft show are just like the ones I used to sell, I believe I still have the patterns.

I used to do that show ~ wonder if we crossed paths way back then? You definitely were meant to make stuffed artful things!!!

What a great photo of you and your Mom! My sewing roots run long and true back to my Dad's mother and his sisters, they were always sewing. My Mom taught me how to sew 51 yrs ago! We enjoyed going to quilt, doll and bear shows together. Thanks for sharing this part of your life!

Wonderful post Lori Ann. Love that you have that news clip. I know I still feel like a kid most days....and blessed to be able to do what I love. Hope neither of those things ever change.

You are so right about this Lori. I've been drawing and painting animals since I was 4 years old.. and I'm still doing it at age 60!
