I finished my "side project" !
I purchased this antique footstool a long while ago with the thought of hooking a top for it.
Oh the stories it could tell . . . under layers of added covers I found bits of wool and even
a quite early man's vest folded up as padding!
Yes, they really did "make do" long ago.
Now I am eager to begin hooking a top for a very early shaker footstool
I found a while back!
Yep . . . you could say I'm "Hooked" !

I have been seeing so many beautiful hooking pieces lately, I am very tempted to try.
This is lovely! I do love this hooked style and am recently messing around with it myself.
I have a little wooden foot stool my Grandmother purchased as a kit about 70 years ago at least. She built it, stained it and made a boucle-type cover for it. Several years ago I had to remove it as it was just completely ragged and I found the padding on top of the wood was actually sawdust that had been encased in muslin! I salvaged the sawdust and when I finally get a new cover made for the top I will use the very same sawdust for a new pad.

Your hooked stool is beautiful. I am working on a hooked stool top myself. I was wondering if you could share any tips on how you attached your hooking to the top. How did you stuff the cushion? How did you attach the hooking to the seat cover?

To Alicia . . . Each footstool depending on how it's make will need a different method of attaching the top.
This one needed a separate board that was padded then wrapped and attached with small nails (hidden between the loops). For a flat top . . . . You can pad a piece of chip board cardboard then wrap and secure the same way, or wrap the whole top being careful to tuck the corners and secure underneath with upholstery tacks. A little difficult to explain in words....but I hope this helps! Lori Ann
